How Be Average Works
This is the inverse of being an outlier. You are handed a poll question and a hidden distribution of how everyone answered it. Your job is to land on the mode — the single most popular response — like a perfectly average internet user with no original thoughts.
- A poll question appears (like "Name a color")
- Type or tap the answer you think the crowd gave most
- You score points equal to that answer's popularity
- Nail the most common answer to hit the jackpot and stack a combo
Why Average Is Hard
Being clever is a liability here. The reward function pays out for predictability, not insight. Suppress your spicy takes, regress hard to the mean, and channel the median mind. Every original answer is just expensive variance the crowd already discarded.
Slop Fact: This is basically next-token prediction with extra steps. A language model wins by guessing the most probable continuation, and so do you. Congratulations, you are now a 1-parameter model trained on vibes.
